Initiatives
p.a.v.e. Speakers SeriesAn integral component of the p.a.v.e. initiative is the p.a.v.e. speaker series on arts entrepreneurship, which brings leading artists from across the nation to lecture and work with School of Theatre and Film students. This year, the series will be featured as part of our MainStage season, the premiere creative platform for students at the School of Theatre and Film.
Three p.a.v.e speakers for the 2009-10 series have been announced.
“Catching and Pitching the True Story: Entrepreneurial Writing and Producing”
Oct. 27, 4:30 p.m.
Lyceum Theatre, 901 S. Forest Mall, ASU Tempe campus
Howard Burkons, TV writer/producer and game developer, has been a producer and Writers Guild of America member for more than 20 years, having written, produced and executive produced television movies, comedy pilots, reality programming, documentaries and feature films. His credits include the award-winning television movie The Ron Clark Story starring Matthew Perry; John Q for New Line Cinema starring Denzel Washington; and Highway Heartbreaker for CBS. Burkons also has an extensive background in computer games and as a Blue Sky Creative Development Consultant for Electronic Arts.
“Intellectual Property and the Arts”
Paul Schiff Berman, Dean and Foundation Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at ASU, holds extensive experience in running theaters. Prior to his law career, Dean Berman’s experience includes having directed professional theatre in New York City.
“Creativity and Innovation across Design and the Arts”

Leni Schwendinger is a world-renowned lighting designer, artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur of Light Projects LTD. Her work is displayed all around the globe in public and architectural spaces.
