C.A. (Crystal) Griffith is an associate professor in the ASU School of Theatre and Film. Her documentary film, Mountains That Take Wing-Angela Davis & Yuri Kochiyama
Mountains That Take Wing-Angela Davis & Yuri Kochiyama with co-director H.L.T. Quan, recently won two awards for best feature documentary, from the San Francisco Black Film Festival, and the Commffest (Global) Community Film Fest in Toronto. The film also was a finalist for best feature documentary at the Mid Atlantic Black Film Festival.
In late September, Mountains was a part of three festival/cultural center screenings: New York's Harlem International Film Festival; the Commffest in Toronto; and the Eastside Arts Alliance Cultural Center in Oakland – a special event with Angela Davis, Yuri Kochiyama and QUAD Productions. Mountains was the opening event of BAAD!'s (Bronx Academy of Art and Dance) BlackTin@ Performance Series. Film festival programmers around the world have invited the co-directors to submit the film to festivals in Poland, India, Japan and Italy. Mountains has been invited to screen at the Japanese American National Museum in 2011.
Griffith and Quan also received a second Art & Technology Post Production Residency from the Wexner Center for the Arts for their next documentary.
